Crazy Houses II continues where the first chapter left off. Van den Heuvel takes his animal-masked figures out of the Netherlands and into the abandoned spaces of France and Sweden — each country bringing its own atmosphere, its own silence, its own particular kind of decay. The language of the series remains the same: no faces, no identities, only the full weight of the space and the figure within it. But with new locations comes new tension. Crazy Houses II is the next chapter in an ongoing exploration of what happens when the human — masked, anonymous, out of place — enters a room that time forgot.
